A Genuine Local Tradesman Who Knows His Stuff
I'm not a big company — it's just me, Paul, working from my workshop on Wilson Street in Hyde. I've spent over 20 years fixing petrol and diesel engines and I treat every machine like it's my own. From Honda mowers to Husqvarna strimmers, Stihl chainsaws to compact tractors — I've seen and repaired them all.
I work on all the major brands: Honda, Husqvarna, Stihl, Bosch, Flymo, Hayter, and Mountfield (plus many more like John Deere, Kubota, Toro, Countax, Westwood, Atco, Al-Ko, Viking, Webb, Iseki, Kawasaki, and Briggs & Stratton). I'll always give you an honest diagnosis, a fair price, and I'll take the time to show you how to get the best out of your equipment. No jargon, no upselling — just straight-talking repairs done right.

From Car Mechanic to Garden Machinery Specialist
Paul started his trade as a car mechanic, learning engines from the inside out on petrol and diesel vehicles for years before specialising in garden machinery. Small engines aren't simpler than car engines — they have less mass, tighter tolerances, and are exposed to dirt, vibration and weather that car engines never see. That background is why Paul rebuilds carburettors, sets valve clearances and balances blades by hand the way he does — the same precision he'd give a car engine.
Over two decades of full-time garden machinery work, Paul has serviced and rebuilt machines from every major manufacturer: Honda (HRX, IZY, GCV/GXV engines), Husqvarna (Rider, Automower-petrol equivalents, X-Torq 2-stroke), Stihl (MS chainsaws, FS strimmers, 2-MIX engines), Hayter (Harrier, Hunter, Spirit on Briggs & Stratton), Mountfield, Flymo, John Deere, Briggs & Stratton, Kawasaki, Kohler, Atco and Westwood. He keeps the most common service parts in stock, has accounts with several UK parts wholesalers, and orders genuine OEM parts for anything specialised.
Paul doesn't work on electric or battery-powered machines — petrol and diesel only. That focus is deliberate. Engine specialists know more about engines than generalists who do both. It also means parts are in stock, diagnosis is faster, and the customer doesn't pay for time spent learning something Paul isn't already expert in.
Most of the time it's just Paul in the workshop. Customers deal directly with him — there's no service receptionist, no quote committee, no upselling chain. The Hyde workshop is open mon-sun 9am-6pm, and Paul answers his own phone, gives quotes honestly, and tells customers when a machine isn't worth repairing.
What Makes PGT Different
It's not about the money — it's called being honest. I've been in customers' gardens and refused to charge them. I'll always tell you if something's not worth repairing.
