Paul's Experience with Countax
Countax garden tractors are premium machines — a cut above your average ride-on. Paul services several across Greater Manchester and the High Peak, including popular used B255 4WD and older C/B series. They're reliable but the powered collector system adds complexity (belts, gearboxes). Most common job is collector drive belt replacement and hydrostatic transmission servicing. Paul has seen gearbox failures just outside warranty on some 4WD models. These are machines worth repairing rather than replacing — they hold their value well. Symptoms: Collector stops picking up grass, squealing from belt area, visible belt fraying

Symptoms: Machine sluggish, won't climb inclines, jerky movement, whining from transmission
Typical fix: Check and top up transmission fluid, purge air from system, inspect drive belt, may need transmission rebuild

Blade engagement clutch wear
Symptoms: Blades slow to engage, slip under load, squealing when engaging PTO
Typical fix: Replace electromagnetic PTO clutch, check wiring and switch, adjust air gap on new clutch
Moderate — will worsen and eventually fail completely
Wiring loom corrosion on older models
Symptoms: Intermittent electrical faults, lights flickering, safety switches triggering randomly
Typical fix: Trace and repair corroded connections, replace damaged sections of loom, apply dielectric grease
Moderate — electrical faults are frustrating and can cause safety system failures
